The Concrete Centre is thrilled to be returning to Futurebuild 2019, previously known as Ecobuild; taking place at ExCel London on 5th - 7th March 2019. The Concrete Centre stand will be in the Materials hub (E81) and will offer a wealth of expert advice, visual interaction and practical demonstrations on the many ways in which designers can use concrete and masonry construction to achieve sustainability, performance and aesthetic goals.

‘Attention to detail’ was the title given to our most recent Concrete Elegance lecture, featuring projects by architectural practices well versed in detailing concrete. Tom Herre and Matt Ball of David Chipperfield Architects (DCA) presented Inagawa cemetery chapel and visitor centre, a thoughtful series of structures and spaces embedded into a Japanese hillside.

The Concrete Centre’s principal structural engineer and expert on fire, Tony Jones, clarifies the Government’s combustible materials ban and its impact on construction.
On 29 November the Government announced details of the changes to the Building Regulations, and associated guidance, that bans the use of combustible materials in the external walls of the relevant buildings.

The Concrete Centre is delighted to have been given the opportunity to curate this display, entitled #thisisconcrete, which illustrates different visual properties of concrete including black, white and textured concrete.

On the 18th of September RIBA launched a consultation on their proposed Plan of Work for Fire Safety. The RIBA plan of work is used throughout the construction industry to define the various stages of a project and to describe the deliverables expected from the various members of the design and construction team at each stage. The inclusion of fire safety is therefore a logical addition to the Plan of Work.

The roadmap is major milestone in the industry’s decarbonising journey, building on the 53% reduction in absolute carbon dioxide emissions that has been achieved since 1990.
This e-learning course will cover the relevant sections of the code for the design of concrete framed buildings. Online and split into ten modules, delegates will have 12 weeks to complete the course via an online poral.
